Talks:
Portrait of Two Women ? Olivia and Sophia Raffles
By Liz McKenzie
Presented by Friends of the Museum
Friday, 19 October, 7.30pm, Glass Hall
Women have played an equally important
if not paramount role behind the greatest success
stories in history. Who were these two supporting women
behind Sir Stamford Raffles? What roles
did they play in his career and what were their
contributions and sacrifices? Unearth a portion of history that
is rarely mentioned and get an opportunity to listen to
'her side of the story'!
[ Liz McKenzie is an active member of the
Friends of the Museum. Besides serving on the Members Programmes
Committee, she conducts regular tours and is a dedicated
volunteer teacher with the Children's Discovery Gallery. ]
Jewellery of the Times
Saturday, 27 October, 2.30pm ? 4.30pm, Patron's Club
In conjunction with Fabulous Fabergé: Objets d'art from The
FORBES Magazine
Collection, New York
The House of Fabergé was the leading
Russian jewellery firm in the late 19th and early
20th centuries. Its creations are today still appreciated for
their superb craftsmanship and elegant designs.
Trace the history of jewellery briefly from
the early civilisation, the use of materials and
evolvement of technique (such as the mechanical
wizardry found in certain Fabergé objects) to the application
of modern technology and technique, and the use
of materials in today's
contemporary jewellery design,
conceptualisation and making.
[Facilitated by Chen Chin Tyng, lecturer with
the LASALLE-SIA College of the Arts with
speakers Cynthia Lim, Koeh Chinn Ying and Eugene Chua who
have all lectured and taught courses on jewellery design at the
LASALLE-SIA College of the Arts and
are currently engaged full time in the local
jewellery industry].

how easy and fun it can be. Create
your own designs and take home your own
piece of jewellery which will be as unique as you.
