The Association of Banks in Singapore (ABS) has advised Singaporeans to convert any European banknotes they are holding by the end of this month. On Jan 1, the euro will be introduced to replace the currencies of 12 European Union (EU) countries - Belgium, Germany, Greece, Spain, France, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Austria, Portugal and Finland. ABS also warned that a lower price may be quoted for currency exchanges from Feb 1, owing to extra costs in redeeming the old currencies. (Straits Times 14 Dec 2001) (6) |
