The Economic
Development Board (EDB) has joined forces with an Indian
multimedia company to make an animated film about Buddha. The
S$11-million 90-minute production entitled Buddha, due to be
finished next year, will be the first full-length animated film to
be co-produced here. (Straits Times 7 Jun 2001) |

Cinema
operators must pay a licencing fee before they screen films that
contain music and songs. This ruling was made on 20 Mar 2001 in a test
case which found that United Artists had infringed the copyright
of three composers and an artist when it screened blockbuster hits
Titanic and Jerry Mcguire. United Artists had refused to pay a
licensing fee to the Composers and Authors Society of Singapore
(Compass) before the shows were shown in 1997 and 1998 in its
Beach Road and Bugis Junction theatres. Yesterday, Justice S
Rajendran ruled in favour of Compass and awarded it costs. (Straits
Times 21 Mar 2001)
