  Former Myanmar dictator Ne Win's son-in-law and three grandsons were sentenced to death by hanging yesterday for conspiring to overthrow the military government. Son-in-law AYE Zaw Win, 54, and AYE Ne Win, KYAW Ne Win and ZWE Ne Win, who are in their 20s, were arrested in March 2002 on charges of recruiting army officers for the coup and inciting them to high treason.    Myanmar's most prominent political prisoner, Ms Aung San Suu Kyi, was freed unconditionally yesterday after 20 months of house arrest, paving the way for urgent reforms to save one of South-east Asia's poorest nations from economic collapse. (Straits Times 7 May 2002) (4)

  Myanmar's military junta said yesterday it had arrested the son-in-law and three grandsons of former strongman president Ne Win for plotting a coup with some military commanders. Businessman Aye Zaw Win, the husband of Ne Win's favourite daughter Sandar Win, was arrested last Thursday along with his sons Aye Ne Win, Kyaw Ne Win and Zwe Ne Win.
