Beyond the Surface: Japanese Style of Making Things

Featuring renown artists-designers from Japan, this exhibition
presents a redefinition of space through interleaving
textures, textiles, photographs and installation.
Convergences of Art, Science and Technology (C.A.S.T )

Form and function converges, where design inspiration is drawn
from Sweden's changing seasons in an exhibition that features
prize-winning products from some Sweden's finest designers and

Music in Museum Series
Music in Museum : A Mid-Autumn Night's Dream
Jointly presented by Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) and SAM
Celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival this year with a
difference at SAM and with members of the SCO as we jointly invite
you on a musical and visual journey through the galleries. The
evening's repertoire will include solo and ensemble items
performed at multiple locations throughout the museum before
coming together in a finale.
For the young and young at heart, have fun and get creative
with making or decorating your very own lanterns! Mark
the date for an enjoyable and enchanting night out for the
whole family! The SCO is actively involved in community outreach
programmes. Besides its main concert seasons, it has
performed at overseas tours. Back home, it enthralled audiences at
this year's Singapore Arts Festival Gala Performance.

Through the Lens: Singapore's Visual Heritage
by Gretchen Liu
Since the invention of photography, photographs have served as an
invaluable tool in documentation and at times, social commentary.
In this talk, Gretchen Liu presents a brief introduction to
Singapore's
photographic history and shares some interesting experiences in
uncovering and tracing rare and unusual prints. Gretchen developed
her interest in antiquarian photographs and their social history
though her involvement as an author and book editor in numerous
projects documenting Singapore's heritage. Her most recent book is
Singapore A Pictorial History 1819-2000.

dances and is perfect for novice dancers. Seasoned swingers
will also get hooked onto the new moves and creative combinations!

Jewellery Making Workshops

Swirls and Whirls (Advance)
This workshop shows you the intricacies of circular weave
patterns and how to create snowflakes and flowers pieces out of
crystals. Make a single crystal pendant and a unique floral
handphone ornament. Prior attendance at the Crystal Watch Strap
workshop or knowledge of weaving is recommended.

Organised by the National Heritage Board

heritage while enjoying the beautiful Istana grounds during

The alternative, experimental, contemporary
Accidental Death of An Anarchist
by Wayang Warehouse
Written by Italian playwright, Dario Fo, a
winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, Accidental Death of An
Anarchist is a mischievous and hilarious play about a madman who
has been accused of planting a bomb. Later released by the
police, the protagonist persists in
hanging around the police station and changing
identities, gradually forcing the hidden truth from the
other characters. Since its debut in
1970, Accidental Death of An
Anarchist has continued to delight audiences around
the world. Catch this fresh interpretation of the play set in a
local context. Directed by Dennis Tan, Artistic
Director, Wayang Warehouse and a recipient of the National
Arts Council's 2002 Georgette Chen Arts Scholarship.
