Ensemble
It*s time to dance! Learn
easy and stylish dance steps from the Lindy Hop Ensemble in this
45-minute workshop. Get your kicks with the Charleston - the
iconic, flamboyant dance of the Roaring Twenties. Add on the
slick grooves of 6-count Swing. Perfect your moves after the
workshop as all-time favourite jazz tunes are spun. Impress your
friends with your newfound confidence on the dance floor! No
prior dance experience required.

The
Other Festival

The Other Festival
aims to showcase promising young talents. In this
performance, you can hear Indian musical instruments such as
the veena, an Indian lute. Be enchanted with the choral
performances of Indian ragas by SYAMA*s student members who
will render compositions by Annamacharya, Thyagaraja and
Dikshitar 每 the Mozarts and Beethovens of Indian classical
music 每 as well as Syama sastri.
SYAMA is Singapore's
first youth group promoting Indian classical music. SYAMA*s
accomplishments include performances at the Singapore Art
Museum for Music Box 2001, Kalautsavam '05 at The Esplanade
and the Singapore Arts Festival 2004 and 2005. The group has
also won prizes in the National Indian Music Competition
2004.

Jewellery making has evolved
to incorporate the use of new materials and concepts that are a
by-product of industrial inventions and urban values. The series
introduces participants to non-traditional jewellery making
materials, and explores jewellery making as a form of art making
by taking inspiration from modern art works of the 20th century.

Rock-n-Roll Swing!*

Take a trip down memory lane to Singapore's very first National Day
in 1966! Celebrate the day with groovy swing moves set to classic
60s rock'n'roll tunes. In the spirit of the festivities, Lindy Hop
Ensemble presents a special retro dance item that will get you
rocking! You will also pick up fun and accessible swing moves in
this 45-minute dance workshop. For anyone from 3 to 83 years old and
even older, the swing workshop is perfect for all in the family!
Shed your inhibitions and get into the swing of things this National
Day! No prior dance experience required.

To Singapore With Love

Art Museum and To Singapore With Love Steering Committee
This photographic exhibition is a tribute to Singapore's 40th year
of independence. The exhibition features a selection of photographs
from submissions by over 130 photographers from all walks of life.
To Singapore With Love is documented in a 264-page art book
showcasing over 330 images which reflect the unique way of life of
Singaporeans, the natural beauty and the cultural heritage of
Singapore.

Creative Stringing (Basic)
By Margaret Tang
You will learn the techniques of stringing necklaces and bracelets
using tigertail and how to use crimps, callottes and clasps. You
will also learn how to string modern designs such as the illusion
design, the happy weave and pendant chokers.

Jewellery Of Our Time
series: Mixed Media Bead Making*

In conjunction
with Art of Our Time exhibitions
Polymer clay was originally developed 30 years ago as a doll-making
medium but has gained immense popularity among bead artists because
of its creative potential. In this workshop, you will learn the
basics of working with polymer clay as well as how to create
"canes". Through the use of "canes", participants will learn how to
create traditional millefiori designs as well as batik-inspired
designs in your beads. The first session will also incorporate a
30-minute walkthrough of Art of Our Time while the polymer
clay beads are baking.

Come celebrate the nation's 40th birthday with an event that invites
children and their families to explore art and heritage while
enjoying the beautiful Istana grounds during the Istana's National
Day Open House. Join an On-The-Spot Art Competition where you stand
to win attractive cash prizes. All winners' works will be exhibited
with the prize presentation officiated by President S R Nathan.
To Singapore With Love, a photographic exhibition that
highlights the creative energies of Singaporeans is co-presented by
Singapore Art Museum and City Developments Limited.
The themes for the On-The-Spot Art Competition are: A Day at The
Istana or Peace and Harmony. Registration for the Art
Competition is open to all schools as well as members of the public
from 22 May 2005 only. Freebies* for early birds.
*Freebies (McDonald's Picnic Pack, Istana Art Event souvenir) to
be collected at the Istana upon submission of completed art work for
the first 1,000 registrants. Please note that all winners must be
