SPORES is the name given to our members. SPORES is the acronym coined by us to describe Singaporeans working, studying, staying or living overseas as well as current expatriates working in Singapore and ex-expatriates who used to work in Singapore together with their spouses and children. If you think you belong to our group, getforme is especially for you.

Singapore citizens and permanent residents born in 1985 need to register for their identity cards within a year after they turn 15 next year. Those living outside Singapore are required to register within a year of their return to Singapore.

Singapore will be divided into four or five districts in about a year. More functions will be hived off from the ministries to Community Development Councils (CDCs), says PM Goh Chok Tong. Each district will have a full-time mayor responsible for running the estate and overseeing the provision of social and municipal services. He will be assisted by a corp of professional staff.

PM Goh confirmed on 19 Mar 2000 that he had given the go-ahead for a Speakers' Corner to be set up here. The idea for having such a corner, modelled after the Hyde Park corner in London which attracts speakers of all persuasions, was mooted by SM Lee Kuan Yew a year ago.
