  Cinnabon opened a store here at Marriott Hotel in Orchard Road in June 2001.

  Marche Restaurant opened a new branch at Suntec City, next to Singapore Visitors Centre, in June 2001.

  Singapore's biggest disco, Grease Disco, opens on Friday 8 Jun 2001 on Level 7 of Ngee Ann City. The one-stop dance party headquarters is spread over three halls occupying an area of 30,000 sq ft.   The old Turf Club at Bukit Timah will soon be transformed into a gigantic shopping centre boasting Orchard Road-quality products at lower prices. The 56-hectare site will undergo a S$20 million facelift from June till September 2001 and open as a shoppers' paradise called Turf City. Other attractions include a car trading centre, trade and exhibition spaces, food outlets and a centre for soccer training with enough space for eight pitches.

  Hougang Central Bus Interchange shifted back to its original location from in front of Hougang Plaza on Sunday 20 May 2001.

  Two new community children's libraries - Punggol East Community Children's Library & Kampong Ubi Community Children's Library - open officially on 5 & 6 May 2001 respectively.

  Woodlands Regional Library (above picture) opens on Saturday 28 Apr 2001. Occupying 11,100 square metres of the Woodlands Civic Centre, the library is the nation's first full-fledged regional library, featuring collections, facilities, services and programmes befitting a one-stop information and reference centre in the northern sector of Singapore

  Third Community Mediation Centre launched on 7 Apr 2001

Myepb Store at Heartland Mall Kovan 

  Myepb opened a branch on 10 Mar 2001 in the revamped Heartland Mall Kovan (formerly Oriental Emporium Blk 205) in Hougang. The new store has an area of 1,672 sq m. For the full story, click HERE!

  Popular Bookstore opened a branch on 10 Mar 2001 at Choa Chu Kang Centre, next to Lot 1. It is Popular's largest store, occupying an area of 2,230 sq m.

  Singapore has set up the world's first Wills Registry.

 

New Robinsons outlet at Raffles City Shopping Centre

  Robinsons opened its new outlet at Raffles City on 15 March 2001. The new outlet occupies the premises left vacant by Sogo Store which closed operations in October 2000. For first day pictures of the new Robinsons store, click HERE!

  Leading Italian brand ETRO has opened another branch at #01-25 Raffles Hotel Shopping Arcade.

Cafe@Parliament

  Cafe@Parliament is situated in the new Parliament House at 1 Parliament Place. This cosy cafe is open to the public and anyone can access it through the side entrance on the road between the building and the Supreme Court. Service is good and food portions ample. There are waiters to serve local and western food. Prices are reasonable - a local set set costs just S$5.50 for the main dish (rice, meat & vegetables), soup and dessert.
