This is in response to recent
media queries about the measures which Police have been
taking since the bombings in London in July and more
recently, the second bombing in Bali .
As part of a continuing review
of security measures, over the past few months the Police
have deployed forces from Special Operations Command (SOC)
and the Gurkha Contingent (GC) to enhance security at
various locations islandwide to complement existing
arrangements for Police officers on patrol. For example,
when assessed necessary, SOC troops have been deployed for
patrols at commercial, entertainment and residential
districts. Similarly, GC officers have already been
deployed regularly at land checkpoints such as the
Woodlands and Tuas Checkpoints.
To further
enhance security, the Police have also
deployed GC officers at the sea checkpoints
Currently, GC officers are deployed at
selected high-volume passenger ferry
terminals such as the Singapore Cruise
Centre, the Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal, the
Changi Ferry Terminal and the Changi Point
Ferry Terminal. GC deployments in such
locations are deployed when assessed to be
necessary for security.
In addition to
these enhanced security measures, the Police
Coast Guard (PCG) have also been randomly
checking ferries and other vessels when they
enter the Singapore Territorial Waters (STW).
Police will
continue to review the security arrangements
and make changes where necessary.

Conclusion of Police’s
Investigations into the White Elephants Placards
Police have completed
investigations into the case where eight placards in the
form of white elephants were planted on the central road
divider along Sengkang Central, opposite Buangkok MRT
station.
The investigation established
that there was an infringement of the Public
Entertainments and Meetings Act. Police noted that the
placards did not cause public annoyance or nuisance and in
considering these facts and circumstances of the case, the
Police after consulting with the Attorney-General's
Chamber, has issued a stern warning to the offender
concerned in lieu of prosecution.
