Polling Day on Saturday 3 Nov 2001 is a public holiday and the Manpower Ministry reminds all employers that they must compensate their workers with an extra day's pay in lieu of the holiday, or give them another day off as a holiday, if a public holiday falls on a non-working day or a day off. In a press release, the ministry said that if an employee is required to work on any public holiday, he should be paid an extra day's salary at the basic rate of pay for working on a public holiday, in addition to the gross rate of pay for that holiday.
