Sentosa
yesterday introduced on its roads "kneeling" buses for
wheel-chair bound visitors and mums with strollers. The new
orange buses, with a seating capacity of 28, can tilt about 8 cm
to their left side. (Straits Times 28 Aug 2003 H5) |

Visitors
to the Underwater World on Sentosa will be invited to stay
overnight at least once a month at the aquarium from January 2003.
Visitors get to lie on the floor of the 83-m-long underwater
tube-tunnel which winds around the whole aquarium. They have to
bring their own sleeping bags, but camping beds will be provided
on request. Underwater World draws more than 1.4 million visitors
annually. (Straits

Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC), the developers of Sentosa
island, is spending S$4 million to stage a 25-minute musical
called Magical Sentosa which uses light, water, fire and music
to tell the story of a man who enters a dream. The show, which
starts on 19 Sep 2002 and replaces the nightly feature using
lasers and light effects, is expected to boost audiences by up to
150,000 a year, from the current 1.5 million. (Straits
Times 2 Sep 2002) (H4) |

Many
previously inaccessible areas of Sentosa will be opened to
visitors when its new cycling tracks are ready in September
2002. Made of
a mix of tarmac, earth and sand, the S$350,000 tracks, which run
for 11 km, can fit three riders shoulder-to-shoulder. There will
be four routes: The mythology, beach, challenge and jungle trails,
each about 3 km long. To use the tracks, visitors can either take
their own bicycles or rent one for between S$4 and S$8 an hour
from one of three booths on the island. (Straits
Times 5 Aug 2002) (H5) |

In a
few months, Sentosa visitors will pay a lower entrance fee than
the current S$6. There will also be announcements on plans to
overhaul the island playground, said BG YEO in Parliament
yesterday. (Straits
Times 17 May 2002) (H4) |

Cars will be welcomed
into Sentosa during the day from 10 Nov 2001 in a bid to boost
flagging visitor numbers. Under the new day drive-in scheme,
fun-seekers will pay S$25 to either drive a car or take a cab to
the island from 8am. Loyalty-card holders and members of
organisations, such as SAFRA and People's Association, will pay
S$20. While the four carparks can take in a total of 500 cars, the
island has accommodated up to 1,500 cars during big-scale events
in the past. The night-entry scheme for cars was introduced in
1998. (Straits Times 8 Nov 2001) H7) |
