Cathay Building will be
redeveloped but will not be torn down totally. The 61-year-old
landmark's podium will be retained while the existing tower block will
make way for a complex that is expected to house cinemas, shops and
offices. The other landmark, MacDonald House in Orchard Road, will have
its frontal portion retained while a new building will be built behind
it, said Minister for Information and the Arts LEE Yock Suan on 1 Nov
2000.
