The government collected a
whopping S$15.5 billion in tax revenue in the first half of the year, or
S$3 billion more than in the same period last year. The full-year's
collection is set to hit an all-time high. Income tax rose 20% while
motor vehicle taxes soared 66%.
The government's tax takings
surged by nearly S$2 billion in the first five months of the year,
providing conclusive evidence that the Singapore economy has in fact
recovered strongly. The state collected a whopping S$7.3 billion in
taxes from January to May this year, a 36% increase over the S$5.4
billion collected in the same period last year.
