Key Changes
2. A new special award – the School Distinction Award – will be introduced to recognise high-achievement schools with exemplary school processes and practices. This new award would be pitched between the Level Two awards (Sustained Achievement Awards and Best Practice Awards) and School Excellence Award.
3. Character development is a new domain under which schools’ achievements will be recognised. The Character Development Awards (CDA) rides on the existing Character Development Framework. It will recognise schools that have adopted a concerted, integrated approach towards the development of students in the three areas of the Character Development Framework - Enterprise, Citizenship and Personal & Social Lifeskills. Evaluation will be based on a combination of qualitative1 and quantitative2 criteria, with a focus on the processes that schools put in place to facilitate character development.
4. Existing awards have also been refined:
a. Where possible, awards have been made criterion-based so that schools are measured according to a pre-determined benchmark instead of relative performance.
b. In addition, where possible, award criteria take into account both breadth and depth of school performance. For example, Sustained Achievement Awards under the domain of Physical and Aesthetics will include the breadth criteria that look at the extent of participation of students across the school. In particular, for the sustained achievement award in sports, there is a threshold requirement of at least 1 in 4 students in sports-related CCAs. This will encourage more broad-based participation in non-academic activities in schools. c. Furthermore, to recognise more deserving schools while differentiating the performance of awardees, we have introduced tiered awards (i.e. Gold, Silver, Bronze) to recognise varying degrees of achievement, where relevant.
