Founded in 1887.

Began as Tamil Girls' School run by a missionary named Sophia Blackmore in a Short Street shophouse with nine Indian girls.

Moved to the Christian Institute in Middle Road and changed its name to Methodist Mission Girls' School in 1891.

Amalgamated with another school set up in Mount Sophia and renamed Methodist Girls' School.

Started its first secondary class - for four pupils - in 1908.

Introduced its white and blue uniform, the 'sailor suit', in 1922.

Moved to Mount Sophia in 1933.

Known as Mount Sophia Girls' School during the Japanese Occupation.

Moved to Blackmore Drive, off Bukit Timah Road.

Illustrious former pupils:

  - KWA Geok Choo, wife of Mr LEE Kuan Yew.
