  The former United Artists cinemas at Bugis Junction and Beach Road reopened on 13 Dec 2001 as Shaw Bugis and Shaw Beach Road respectively.   The S$400 million luxury hotel, Fullerton Hotel, opens on 15 Dec 2000 in Fullerton Square near Raffles Place. Its room rates range from S$450 to S$3,800. The hotel building is the 72-year-old former General Post Office. Its official launch is on 31 Dec 2000.

  Orchard Road Festive Light-Up was launched by President Nathan on 17 Nov 2000. The festive lights will be turned on daily from 7pm to midnight until 5 Jan 2001, except on Fridays and Saturdays, when they will stay on till 2am. On Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, they will stay on till 6am.

  The Centre For Tourism Related Studies was renamed Tourism Management Institute of Singapore on 16 Nov 2000. It was officially set up by the National Association of Travel Agents (NATAS) and the then Area Manager of Singapore Airlines.

     DBS Bank said on 26 Sep 2000 that it will consolidate its two "DBS" and "POSBank" brands into one single brand" within the next few months". But a firm decision has yet to be made on what that brand will be eventually, said the bank.

     The University of Chicago's Graduate School of Business opened its Asian campus at the 115-year-old House of TAN Yeok Nee in Clemenceau Avenue on 15 Sep 2000. This is the business school's third campus, after its first two in Chicago and Barcelona in Spain.

     Liang Court shopping mall and serviced apartment complex is to undergo a S$8 million makeover. A new facade, more entrances and reconfigured shop layouts are in the renovation plans. The shopping mall will get a new glass frontage. The refurbishment will be completed by the end of 2000. The nearby Clarke Quay MRT Station, which is under construction, will draw more human traffic to the area when it is completed in 2002.

  Go magazine, a 20-year-old home-grown publication has been relaunched as GoFlirt, targeting single women aged between 20 and 29.

     Singapore Bus Services (SBS) staff sported a brand new look on Saturday, 1 Jan 2000. 

     Its bus drivers have been renamed Bus Captains and no longer wear the familiar blue uniforms. Instead, they sport pastel-green long-sleeved shirts tucked into black trousers, black leather belts and shoes, dark-green jackets, bags and name-tags. For the women, the shirts are not tucked in and look more feminine.

     The NTUC Pasir Ris Resort has been renamed NTUC Lifestyle World Downtown East.

     Beginning April 2000, holiday makers at its 400 chalets can expect to treat themselves to more than 30 food outlets, a bowling centre and a disco pub, all modelled after the Disney Downtown in Florida.
