About the artists
Biography of Artist, Yeo Shih Yun:
Shih Yun's fascination for the
abstract medium surfaced during her time at Lasalle, when she
first experimented with the fusion of fine arts and contemporary
design. One of her early experimental works received acclaim as
a highly commended entry for the UOB Painting of the Year
competition in 1999, which spurred her to further explore fine
arts and the abstract form. After graduating from Lasalle, Shih
Yun attended the one-year Post Baccalaureate Program (Painting)
at the San Francisco Art Institute.
Shih Yun has collaborated with artists from America and UK for
the past three years and has held numerous exhibitions in
Singapore and Australia. Some of her recent exhibitions include
“exit” in Melbourne, Australia and “NewFinds 2003" at MITA
ARTrium. In addition, she was awarded the Emerging Artist Grant
from the National Arts Council to hold her first solo exhibition
titled, “log:one03” at Block 43 Studio Gallery in 2003.
Biography of Designer, Joyce Chin:
Joyce had recently returned from UK after graduating with a
Master of Arts in Creative Imaging under a full bursary from
Yorkshire Forward (UK). During her study there, she had the
opportunity to learn and work with one of the world's leading
design firms,
ATTIK.
Biography of Film-maker, Lynn Loo:
Lynn Loo is originally from Singapore and currently based in
London. Her works draw on similarities between music and film.
Her knowledge of musical structure is applied to the
thought-processes of experimental filmmaking. Her approach is
always intimate and personal; each film attempts to create a
balanced entity within a wider field of chaos. Her films have
been included in numerous international festivals as well as
exhibited in galleries. She is a recipient of the Anne Raymond
Louis Foundation Fellowship, Chicago 2001 and was a fellow
artist at The Macdowell Colony in New Hampshire in 2004.
Biography of Artist, Chan Mei Hsien:
Born in
Singapore, Chan Mei Hsien recently graduated from Nanyang
Academy of Fine Arts Singapore with a Diploma in Fine Art
(Printmaking) in 2004. Her works has been included in numerous
exhibitions in Singapore including “Interlude” at Millenia Walk
as well as the prestigious “Proof 2004”, at Singapore Tyler
Print Institute which featured over 90 prints employing a wide
range of techniques, including lino-cut, woodcut, etching,
collagraph, stencil, silkscreen, digital printing and aquatint,
by 25 local and foreign printmakers from the Printmaking Society
(Singapore). Mei Hsien was also one of the four artists
showcased in “An Eye for Identity” at Utterly Art this year. An
upcoming young artist, Mei Hsien has also won The Della Butcher
Merit Award in 2004.
Biography of Artist, Wyn-Lyn Tan:
Wyn-Lyn Tan has developed a personal artistic language through
the bold interplay of colour, light, texture and contrast in her
five years of painting. She obtained her Diploma in Fine Art
from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and holds a Bachelor of Arts
(Fine Art) from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. Her
works have been exhibited in various galleries in Singapore, and
are collected by both local and international collectors. She
was conferred the Highly Commended Work award in Abstract Medium
in the 22nd United Overseas Bank Limited (UOB) Painting of the
Year Competition, Singapore, 2003, and was recently one of the
selected emerging artists for New Finds 2004.
Biography of artist, Tay Bee Aye:
Recipient of the Georgette Chen Art Scholarship, two Honorable
Mentions at the Philip Morris Singapore Art Award and a
Commendation Award at the Singapore Power Ltd Art Competition. A
full time artist, Bee Aye’s works works have been exhibited at
Esplanade, Suntec
City and M Hotel. She recently had her solo exhibition, titled
‘Her World’ at Utterly Art Gallery in Jan 2005.
Biography of artist, han:
han was born in Singapore, grew up in Malaysia and now lives,
study and work in Singapore. He began his exploration on
photography and drawing since nine, being taught aesthetically
in drawing during secondary schooldays, he now invests his time
in photography as he feels photography is a more expressive
medium for him as compared to painting. His art education in Nayang Academy of Fine Arts inspires him to make art his
professional career. Being a freelance photographer, han has
worked with Lianhe Zaobao. In his free time, han loves to
experiment with fusing fine art, journalistic and commercial
approaches, which results in exciting tripartite work.
Biography of artist, Zheng Xupeng:
Zheng Xupeng (b.1983, Singapore) is the winner of Della
Butcher Award in 2004- a prestigious award named for the
late British gallery owner & champion of the arts, who was known
as “the mother of artists in Singapore”. On the same year, he
was awarded the Best Graduate of the year from Nanyang Academy
of Fine Arts, Singapore, obtaining a Diploma in Fine Art
(Distinction). He was also the recipient of the coveted
Georgette Chen Arts Scholarship by the National Art Council of
Singapore in 2003.
Biography of Estonia Tan:
Graduated with a Diploma in Visual Communications (Distinction)
from Lasalle-SIA College of the Arts in 2000, Estonia Tan is a
flash animator with avid interest in toys and characters design.
As a toy collector himself, he had in his collection, over a
hundred sets of KUBRICKS & BEARBRICKS currently. In this special
event, Estonia hopes to combine his design skills with his
interest to produce limited editions of Chinese New Year themed
Toys and printed T-shirts.
Biography of Jasmine Peh:
Jasmine Peh is currently a law and management student of Temasek
Polytechnic. Only 19 years old, she is the youngest participant
in this exhibition. Creative arts and poetry greatly influence
her life, with inspirations from her inner world and the little
things in life.

The Serendipity
Studio is an advertising and branding communications agency that
provides creative and strategic solutions across every media and
platform, from print, web, broadcast to event management. OUR

2 Work
Design is our
passion and we take pride in producing quality works for every
project that we undertake. When we are not doing commercial
work, we initiate our own projects for experimentation and
continual learning. As in the meaning of “Serendipity” – where
the name of our studio derives from – we hope to make “happy
chance discoveries” through the process.
3 Play
We have fun
while we work, but to satisfy our unquenchable thirst for
creativity, we have set up an avenue – transpace.us, a
non-commercial website, for gathering like-minded designers and
artists from around the world to share their passion and
knowledge, foster friendships and encourage collaborations among
them.
About instinc
instinc is located at the attic of a conservation
townhouse that has been carefully restored, originally built in
the 1800s. Creating an inspirational environment to work in,
instinc has a pointed roof with high ceiling and a large patio
natural lighting, adding to the character of the space.
Started in November 2004, instinc is an artist-run space that
aims to foster friendships and collaborations with other
artists. instinc is a dynamic space in continuous process of
creation and is committed in exhibiting all forms of
contemporary art.
The objectives
of instinct are:

vibrant environment for creative practice and dialogue.
