¡°As one of the fastest
growing industries at the moment, the BTMICE sector is a major
creator of new employment opportunities. Greater recognition for the
BTMICE industry will certainly increase the prestige of working in
our field and we will be able to attract more good people to work
for us,¡± said Elena Arabadjieva, Director, Marketing Services and
Communications, Suntec Singapore International Convention &
Exhibition Centre.
In 2006, the SECB
conducted a feasibility study for the Singapore Business Events
Awards. Feedback from the industry has been encouraging and many
MICE industry partners applauded the creation of a formalised award
to recognise their contributions in growing the business events
industry here.
¡°To bring together the
BTMICE industry through an award ceremony will help the development
of business events in Singapore. In recent years Singapore
demonstrated its capability in bringing in major business events
positioning Singapore as a premier business destination. The award
ceremony will cement Singapore¡¯s standards of service of excellence
in the MICE industry,¡± said Wolfram Diener, Vice President of
Conventions and Exhibitions, Marina Bay Sands.
Many MICE players are
supportive of the Awards as the accolade will bring added business
value for their company. ¡°The Awards will showcase Singapore MICE
industry players on a central stage to recognise the outstanding
companies and personalities as well as to celebrate the achievement
of our Singapore MICE industry. It is certainly an honour to be
conferred the Singapore Business Events Awards, this will be an
excellent testimony to the success of our events. It could boost the
morale of our employees for their job well done and provide an
excellent profile of the company,¡± said Dilys Yong, President of the
Singapore Association of Convention and Exhibition Organisers and
Suppliers (SACEOS).
Industry partners are
also excited about the increased international attention generated
by the Awards. ¡°The Awards will definitely create awareness for
Singapore as a BTMICE destination and will lift the profile of the
industry members. It is a message to the world that Singapore is the
place for your next event and that our people have what it takes to
make the event a success,¡± said Judy Lum, Group Vice President Sales
& Marketing, Tour East Singapore.
Coupled with the ¡®BE in
Singapore¡¯ incentive scheme, the Singapore Business Events Awards
will add vibrancy and encourage more business events organisers to
hold their events in Singapore in the coming years.
Singapore continues to
be a preferred BTMICE destination for many business events
organisers around the world with a strong pipeline of business
events in the next few years including Herbalife Asia Pacific
Extravaganza in 2007, the largest incentive travel group to come to
Singapore, the first ever ITB Asia in 2008 and the FDI World Dental
Federation Congress in 2009 which is expected to welcome 13,000
foreign delegates.
