     Singapore Fashion Festival 2008

Continued from FrontPage of Article

“In 2006, Singapore achieved a record S$12.4 billion in tourism receipts with shopping once again accounting for almost half of visitor expenditure. Fashion and accessories accounted for the biggest share at 32% of shopping expenditure, or almost S$1.1 billion. Mr Phua added that one of the Festival’s key attractions was that visitors could buy the collections showcased straight off the runway at leading shops. “The Festival period has to be one of the best times to shop for fashion in Singapore,” he quipped. "This year, fashion-forward visitors can look forward to new memorable experiences at the Singapore Fashion Festival, with highlights including international designers, previews of Autumn/Winter 08 collections, international labels, regional designers as well as our very own home-grown Singapore designers .”

"The Singapore Fashion Festival is one of the leading festivals of its kind in Asia and MasterCard cardholders will have plenty to look forward to with MasterCard as presenter of the festival for the second year. We have lined up a series of priceless experiences and fashionable lifestyle privileges for our cardholders. From exclusive benefits at trendy dining establishments to shopping delights and pampering spa treatments, we seek to provide cardholders with all they need to live the life of the fashion elite this SFF," said TV Seshadri, Vice President and Senior Country Manager, Singapore, MasterCard Worldwide.

Set in a spectacular catwalk theatre built to accommodate more than 1,000 guests, the new and bigger Tent@Orchard at Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza will feature an elevated 60 foot catwalk designed for versatility, and is the first in Asia to introduce contact-less RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) access stickers by Stickkeys™ for VIP guest clearance. Transforming from a couture gala dinner venue to a theatre-style runway gallery, the stunning catwalk will feature an impressive 8 meter-wide LED screen, creating a world-class backdrop for ten days of high-octane fashion shows and parties in the heart of Orchard Road.

“We are proud to be back at the helm of the nation’s largest fashion event. We are dedicated to making the event a world-class platform for international labels and Singapore designers, reaffirming Singapore’s position as the region’s fashion hub. Expect elegant gala dinners, red-carpet fashion parties and late-night champagne revelries, as we up the fun and glamour of the Festival” says Ms Tjin Lee, Festival Director and Managing Director of Mercury Marketing & Communications.

With MasterCard returning as the Presenting Sponsor of the Singapore Fashion Festival, and Lee Hwa Jewellery as Official Jeweller, the Festival is also proud to introduce new partners Audi as Official Car and Samsung as Official Electronics.

Singapore Fashion Festival is set to blaze new trails with fabulous debuts and discoveries, exciting revelations and resurgence. Watch out for bold, new names and iconic legends – See you at the Festival!

Ten years after setting out on his own as a fashion graduate from Central Saint Martins in 1997, he has a store in the heart of Mayfair, his collections are worn by celebrity clients including Madonna, Gwyneth Paltrow and Sienna Miller, and he is Creative Director at Pucci. His career was celebrated last year with an exhibition at the Design Museum in London: an overview that presented his most iconic designs and deconstructs the process behind his work, illuminating his distinctive use of pattern, print and colour. Matthew Williamson arrives in town with a showcase of his Spring/Summer 08 collection as well as an Asian preview of his Autumn/Winter 08 collection.

Izumi Ogino, Creative Director of Anteprima, will arrive in Singapore to celebrate the brand’s 15th Anniversary and present its Autumn/Winter 08 collection at the Festival. Singapore is proud to present a preview of the Anteprima Autumn/Winter 08 collection supported by Samsung, the first in the world since the collection’s unveiling in Milan this February 2008.

INTERNATIONAL TOP MODELS

A unique contrast of cultures and beauty meets on the runway line-up when a bevy of China’s top international models is juxtaposed with an iconic supermodel from the UK. China’s traditional beauty meets Europe’s aristocratic supermodel, when the models arrive in town to add glamour to the festival.

Erin O’Connor
Karl Lagerfeld has described her as “one of the best models in the world”. O’Connor has been associated with luxury labels Chanel, Versace, Givenchy, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci and Jean-Paul Gaultier. She has modelled on the catwalk for John Galliano, Christian Dior, Donna Karan, Prada, Versace, Miu Miu, Giorgio Armani, Julien MacDonald, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Badgley Mischka, Dolce & Gabbana, and has worked with many leading fashion photographers including Patrick Demarchelier, Steven Meisel, Steven Klein, Nick Knight and Mario Testino. She has been featured in magazines including Vogue, W, ELLE, Nova, Harper's Bazaar, Harpers & Queen, i-D, and Visionaire. From the most prestigious runways of the fashion world, to the most coveted covers, Erin O’Connor catwalks into town for the Singapore Fashion Festival. Catch a glimpse of the stunning supermodel when she walks the red carpet this year.

Top China Models
From Armani to Dior, Fendi to Ferragamo, major fashion labels are looking to the East for models to take rein of their catwalks. Making waves on the international fashion circuit with increasing frequency, Asian beauty is no longer taking a back-seat. To celebrate the emergence of the Asian supermodel, the festival welcomes the next wave of China’s fastest-rising stars, including Lili Shen, straight off the runways of the Emporio Armani and Giorgio Armani Autumn/Winter 08/09 shows; Kiki, handpicked by Karl Lagerfeld himself for Fendi’s Great Wall of China Autumn 2007 show; and Zhang Xu Chao, touted by China press as the next Du Juan.

REGIONAL SUPERSTARS

Tradition meets modernity when the Festival welcomes two of Asia’s fashion powerhouses to Singapore for the first time. Taking centre-stage in unique contrast are India’s legendary fashion pioneer Ritu Kumar and China’s most dynamic, contemporary designer, Qiu Hao. Both designers will be in town to showcase their stunning collections at the Festival.

Making his Singapore debut at this year’s Singapore Fashion Festival with his Spring/Summer 08 collection, Something Growing by Qiu Hao will present to-the-point, wearable, timeless pieces that showcase his renowned sense of aesthetics. Fluid lines, stark shapes and immaculate cutting will showcase alongside his signature knot designs, boasting a romantic palette from beige and milk-white, to muted silver and dark gold. Inspired by quietly confident women the world over, Qiu Hao fans can also look forward to a collection of 30 unique pieces that were created exclusively for the Festival.

Evolving traditional Indian fashion for the European buyer, Ritu Kumar is one of India’s foremost designers. Through her fusion of heritage and craft catered to Western sensibilities, she has defined a new genre for Indian fashion.
