The restored Lian Shan Shuang Lin Monastery in Toa Payoh now has a new S$3-million seven-storey granite pagoda. It took craftsmen from China three years to construct the Dragon Light pagoda, as it is called. The granite for it was imported from Huian county in Fujian, China. The 104-year-old Buddhist monastery was restored over 11 years at a cost of more than S$40 million. It was gazetted as a national monument in 1980. (Straits Times 17 Jun 2002) (3)
