The
restored Lian Shan Shuang Lin Monastery in Toa Payoh now has a
new S$3-million seven-storey granite pagoda. It took
craftsmen from China three years to construct the Dragon Light
pagoda, as it is called. The granite for it was imported from
Huian county in Fujian, China. The 104-year-old Buddhist
monastery was restored over 11 years at a cost of more than S$40
million. It was gazetted as a national monument in 1980. (Straits
