CERTIFICATE OF ELIGIBILITY |
|
All persons who desire to be a candidate at the
Presidential Election must apply for a Certificate of Eligibility from the
Presidential Elections Committee. |
|
Applications may be made at any time from tomorrow
but will close on the 3rd day after the Writ of Election is issued. |
|
Application forms can be obtained from the
Secretary of the Presidential Elections Committee, Elections Department, 11
Prinsep Link, Singapore 187949, as follows:- |
|
(a) Weekdays - 9.00 am to 5.00 pm |
|
(b) Saturdays - 9.00 am to 1.00 pm |
|
The office of the Secretary will be closed on
Sundays and Public Holidays. |
|
The Certificate of Eligibility will state that for
the purposes of the Presidential Election:- |
|
(a) the Presidential Elections Committee is
satisfied that the applicant is a person of integrity, good character and
reputation; and |
|
(b) where the applicant desires to contest the
election by virtue of being qualified under Article 19 (2) (g) (iv) of the
Constitution of the Republic of Singapore, that the Committee is of the
opinion that the applicant, having held office for a period of not less than 3
years in such position of seniority and responsibility in an organisation or
department in the public or private sector comparable to those in Article 19
(2) (g) (i), (ii) or (iii), has such experience and ability in administering
and managing the financial affairs so as to enable him to carry out
effectively the functions and duties of the office of President. |

(c) Mr H R Hochstadt - Member |
|
A member of the
Presidential Council for Minority Rights nominated by the Chairman of that
Council pursuant to Article 18 (2) (c) of the Constitution |
|
Mr Lim Hup Seng, Deputy Secretary (Administration)
of the Ministry of Defence, is the Secretary of the Committee. |
