HDB Introducing RFID Tags To
Replace Paper Season Parking Tickets |
|
|
HDB is introducing Radio Frequency
Identification (RFID) tags to replace the current paper disc issued to
season parking tickets (SPT) holders. |
The new tags will be issued progressively to
all SPT holders within one year. |
Currently, HDB SPT holders display the
paper disc on their vehicles for verification by parking
enforcement officers. |
The season parking details are
displayed on the disc, which is replaced each time the motorist
renews the season parking. |
In Aug 2005, HDB had implemented RFID
tags in place of the paper disc tickets on a pilot basis at seven
car parks. |
Following the successful trial and
positive response, HDB will be implementing the system to all its
residential car parks. |
The introduction of the RFID tags will
bring more convenience for SPT holders as they would no longer
need to replace the paper SPT each time they renew their season
parking. |
The transition is also simple. Like
the existing paper disc, the RFID tag is displayed on the
windscreen for cars or near the road tax disc for motorcycles. The
RFID tag will store a serial number that identifies the vehicle. |
Parking enforcement officers using
handheld scanners can then scan the RFID tag for the number, which
is matched against information on the vehicle, such as its licence
plate number and SPT's period of validity. |
SPT holders will be notified by post
closer to the time when the RFID tags are implemented at their car
parks. New SPT applicants will be given RFID tags when they apply
to purchase season parking. |
The first batch of car parks / areas
where HDB will start sending out the RFID tags is listed in ANNEX
A for reference. |
SPT holders using these car parks who
do not receive their notification and tags by 15 Mar 2007 or those
who need further clarification can contact HDB Branch Office
Service Line at 1800-2255432 between 8am and 5pm on weekdays. |
