|
The Land Transport Gallery, which presents
Singapore's land transport development to facilitate understanding and
appreciation of the challenges, solutions and approaches in land
transport planning, opened its doors to the public today. |
|
Speaking at the official launch of the
Gallery, Guest-of-Honour Transport Minister and Second Minister for
Foreign Affairs Mr Raymond Lim said, "Transport touches the lives of
everyone, on a daily basis. Singapore will be going through an exciting
phase of transport development in the next 10 to 15 years. We want to
inspire the public to join us on this journey. The Gallery provides a
visual and sensory experience to share this collective vision and what
it means for our families, our children and for the nation." |
|
"LTA has benefited much from the ideas of
more than 4500 people who participated in our Land Transport Review in
the past one and half years. We appreciate their many useful
contributions. With the launch of the Land Transport Gallery, we hope to
increase our efforts to engage the community and commuters further. We
intend to attract not just transport stakeholders, but also the
community and students to visit our Gallery and to feel they have a part
in the present and future development of land transport in Singapore,"
added Mr Yam Ah Mee, Chief Executive of the Land Transport Authority (LTA). |
|
The Gallery will realise this mission
through interactive exhibits on Singapore's land transport progress from
1945 to the current land transport landscape and the vision for
Singapore's land transport in the future. These exhibits provide the
context and forum for land transport development in Singapore. |
|
The Gallery strives to engage and
educate an increasingly diverse local and international audience.
This encompasses commuters, motorists, students, grassroots bodies,
urban planners, public transport academics, operators and industry
partners, to promote awareness and encourage an open exchange of
ideas on land transport. |
|
The Gallery, developed at a cost of $2
million, is housed in a reconstructed office block within LTA
offices at Hampshire Road. |
|
The Gallery's 700-square metre floor
space includes five permanent interactive exhibitions which trace
the various stages of Singapore's land transport development -
Journeys, Memories, Formative Years, Land Transport Today and
Vision/ Aspirations. There is also a Challenge Theatre where
visitors can participate in choosing land transport outcomes. |
|
Admission to the Gallery is free. The
Gallery is opened to the general public as well as group tours for
corporate visitors and grassroots organisations from 21 January
2008. |
|
The Gallery is open from Mondays to
Saturdays, from 9am to 5pm. Interested organisations, corporations
and members of the public can call 63962550 or email LTGallery@lta.gov.sg
for more information on the Gallery's exhibition tours. The Gallery
is closed on Sundays and Public Holidays. |
