      The Golden Point Award 2001

Competition Category - The competition will consist of the following sections:

i)  Short Story          ii)  Poetry

Subject & Theme - Entrants may write on any subject or theme

Length - Each short story must be no less than 2,500 words and not exceeding 10,000 words. Each poetry entry must consist of a collection of 5 poems at a minimum, and not exceed 8 poems. 

Number of Entries -

  - Entrants may send in a maximum of 3 entries.

  - The same entry should not be submitted in more than one language.

  - Each entry must be accompanied by the official entry form. Photostated copies of the entry form may be used.

Manuscripts

  - Manuscripts in English and Malay must be typewritten, double-spaced, on one side of A4 size paper.

  - Manuscripts in Chinese and Tamil may be typewritten, or handwritten legibly on one side of A4 size paper.

  - 5 copies of each manuscript must be submitted. Failure to do so will disqualify the entry.

  - The organisers shall not be held responsible for any manuscript lost or damaged in transit. Entrants are advised to retain a copy as manuscripts will not be returned.

Closing Date - All entries must reach the organisers by 15 June 2001. All entrants will be notified of the results by post in Sep 2001.

INSTRUCTIONS:

  - Write the title of your work, and your I/C number at the top right hand corner on each page of your manuscript

  - Do not write your name on any part of the manuscript
  - State the total number of words after the last line of the manuscript
  - Each page must be numbered
  - Entries with missing pages will be disqualified
  - Entries must be sent in an envelope marked:

"Golden Point Award 2001 - Short Story"

or

"Golden Point Award 2001 - Poetry"

and addressed to

National Arts Council

PRIZES:

First          Cash prize S$4,000, a certificate, a trophy and a 

                S$6,000 enrichment grant
Second     Cash prize S$3,000 and a certificate
Third         Cash prize S$2,000 and a certificate

In the event that none of the above prizes are won, Honorable Mention Awards of S$500 may be awarded instead

The Award Presentation for all prize winners will be held in September 2001 in conjunction with the Singapore Writers' Festival 2001.
