Founded in 1824 by Sir Stamford Raffles, the founder of Singapore.

The school building was ready in 1838, 12 years after the death of its founder.

Came under government management in 1903.

Became an independent school in 1990.

Moved to Grange Road.

Moved to Bishan.

Opened a new S$35 million boarding school to house 1,400 pupils from Singapore and around Asia.

Illustrious former pupils:

  - LEE Kuan Yew, former Prime Minister

  - GOH Chok Tong, Prime Minister
