Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay
announced yesterday the addition of a virtual tour to its website.
|
|
At www.esplanade.com,
Internet users who cannot travel to the Centre will be able to wander through
Singapore’s national performing arts centre online, and gain a sense of its
stunning halls.
|
|
Through a combination of QTVR, 3D
modelling and flash action scripting technology, visitors to the website can
explore Esplanade’s various spaces, including the elegant interiors of the
Concert Hall and Theatre, at the click of a mouse.
|
|
The virtual tour was shot using a
wide-angle lens for panoramic views. The resulting images were aligned with VR
Work "stitching" software that created 360-degree views of the
spaces.
|
|
Instructions on Esplanade’s
website help the visitor link to and download the necessary browser plug-in (Quicktime
player and Flash player 6), which is free and located at quicktime.com
and macromedia.com.
|
|
Using a computer mouse to explore
the Centre, the visitor can be virtually inside each space, and learn about
various features from different perspectives. "Hotspots" identifying
various locations in the tour can be selected with the mouse, which then links
to the panoramic pictures and related information.

Marketing Communications Director
Carolyn Tay said, "I am excited that many more ‘visitors’ worldwide
can use the Internet to view our beautiful halls. Esplanade embraces the use
of technology in our work and this is an excellent marketing channel to
increase awareness about our Centre."
|
|
Esplanade’s website also offers
programme information on the smorgasbord of arts events available, and enables
patrons to buy their tickets online.
