Singapore Sports Hub Tender
Launched (Pre-qualification process for potential bidders begins 15 Dec
2005) |
|
|
Singapore's goal to be a preferred venue for
premium sports and entertainment events in the region got a boost on 15
Dec 2005 with the launch of the tender for the Singapore Sports Hub,
beginning with the pre-qualification process for potential bidders. |
The Pre-Qualification Document will be
available on the Singapore government's one-stop e-procurement portal (www.gebiz.gov.sg)
from 15 Dec 2005. |
Potential bidders will be given up till 28
February 2006 to submit their applications. The pre-qualification stage
is to establish and pre-qualify bidders who demonstrate the expertise to
execute the project. Potential bidders will be pre-qualified based on
their financial strength, technical ability, compliance and eligibility. |
Tender submissions will be evaluated by the
Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports and the Singapore
Sports Council. Bidders who have been pre-qualified will then
participate in the Invitation to Tender stage, which will commence in
April 2006. |
The successful bidder is expected to be appointed
by mid 2007. The Sports Hub is expected to commence operations in mid 2011. |
Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for
Community Development, Youth and Sports, said: "The Singapore Government
is committed and fully behind the development of the Sports Hub as it
would lay the critical infrastructure for the future of sports in
Singapore. With its world-class facilities, the Sports Hub will position
Singapore as a preferred venue for premium sports and entertainment
events in the region, including multi-sport games such as the South East
Asian (SEA) Games. We also want to ensure that the Sports Hub is a place
for all Singaporeans. It will offer a wide range of fun and exciting
sports and recreational activities for everyone - from elite athletes,
sports enthusiasts and adventure-seeking youths to couples, families and
tourists. There will be something for everyone." |
Said Mr Alex Chan, Chairman of the Singapore
Sports Council: "The Sports Hub will be a fully integrated sports,
entertainment and lifestyle hub for everyone in Singapore. This unique
cluster development will accelerate the fusion of sports industry,
excellence and participation and take sports to the next level in
Singapore. The critical mass of international, regional and local sports
federations and associations; sports medicine & sports science service
providers; sports related training & education service providers; and
sports companies' sales & marketing headquarters, retail outlets, R&D
and design centers; in one centralised location will facilitate
knowledge exchange and create vital synergies between sports industry,
excellence and participation. We expect to see economic spin-offs
arising from the hive of events and activities that the development is
expected to generate." |
The Sports Hub is the first and largest
sports facilities infrastructure Public-Private-Partnership (PPP)
project in the world and is also Singapore's largest and flagship PPP. |
The 35-hectare development site in Kallang
is conveniently located next to the city and is easily accessible to the
rest of Singapore and within the Sports Hub itself. It will be connected
to the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) network and major expressways. |
