Sculptor NG Eng Teng dies of pneumonia

Sculptor and potter NG Eng Teng died in his sleep on Sunday 4 Nov 2001 at his studio in 106 Joo Chiat Place. He was 67. Mr NG, a bachelor, had been suffering from a chronic kidney ailment for the past three years. He caught pneumonia less than two weeks ago and landed in hospital.

Mr NG leaves behind a legacy of over 1,000 of his sculptures, ceramic forms, vessels, paintings, drawings and maquettes in the Ng Eng Teng Gallery at the National University of Singapore (NUS).

For his contributions to Singapore art, Mr NG was awarded the Cultural Medallion in 1981. He also received an Honorary Doctor of Letters from the University of Singapore in 1998.

The wake is being held at the All Saints Memorial Chapel in Poh Huat Road.
