Food Street - alfresco dining - opens in Chinatown

Mdm Kang's Kitchen Chilli Crab

After a lull of 20 years, open-air dining returns to Chinatown's Smith Street in the form of Food Street - a selection of 18 of some of the best hawker food stalls as well as 12 select shophouse restaurants in Singapore all hand-picked by Singapore Tourism Board (STB).

Food Street opened four days ago on 13 Nov 2001. The stalls are open daily from 11am to 11pm. Since its opening, there have been minor hiccups, such as leftovers not cleared by the contract cleaners after closing time. Apparently, the cleaners had clocked out at about 11pm though some customers had yet to finish their food.

We visited the place yesterday and have posted here some pictures of the new place for you to take a look, just in case you are out of town, living in another country or just too busy to hop by the place.
