The SMS Magazine is one of five new magazines to hit town the last two months. It is on sale at a street price of S$3.50 which makes it reasonably priced compared to other lifestyle magazines here.

The first quarterly issue, Sep - Nov 2001, flashes catchy phrases, such as "Make more of the Hormone that makes you a man" and "Sexual Energy...Radiate more of it", which makes you want to find out more by buying the magazine. What you get is good doses of healthy advice on both topics. You find yourself wishing they had more pages on the topics as both articles only take up five pages out of the 104-page magazine.

But then, to be fair, you need to understand The SMS Magazine is all about lifestyle - and therefore needs to keep a balance on its intended focus by allotting space for articles on beauty, fashion, entertainment and food in addition to health.

Of course, the usual stuff about choice nightspots, restaurants as well as music reviews is not forgotten. There's even timely advice on coping with retrenchment.

The magazine also has a website presence at www.theSMSmagazine.com. To attract you to hop by, it dangles some prizes for you to win if you sign up online.

I never quite found out what SMS stands for. At first glance I thought the magazine was all about sending SMS messages using mobile phones and the jazz. Then I realised it wasn't the case. Now, I find myself nodding my head on the magazine's choice of SMS in its name as I finally understand that SMS is all about being young and trendy.

All in all, the magazine's a good read.
